Sketch on Crested Paper. This sketch accompanies a letter from J. Dickinson Logan to William Wister of 407 Walnut Street Philadelphia, written 25 February 1867. The letterhead also bears the same crest with 'L' and location 'Summerville' at the top. Also from the same Wister Collection, a letter from C. O. Sanford to William Wister, dated July 29, 1858, showing a hand-drawn pedigree of a dog owned by Wister, dating back 20 years to 1838. The sketch paper measures 4 3/4" x 7 3/8;" the matting is ... This fabulous pencil drawing depicts two U.S. navy warships of the early 19th century. The ship on the right is no doubt the USS Constitution and the much smaller vessel on the left also flies the U.S. flag and appears to have the profile of a modest sized schooner. Each flies a flag in the style of the Betsy Ross flag of the 1780s with the stars arranged in a circle, suggesting the artist either dated from this period, or more likely, was simply depicting the Constitution in use during this per... A well-done pen and ink drawing of a Mennonite family in their horse-drawn buggy. This 13-1/2" x 8-1/2" sight size drawing is in shades of brown with white, and it comes in a 17-3/4" x 12-3/4" gold trimmed wood frame. It is signed AUGUSTINE and it is glazed with non-glare glass. It is in excellent original condition with no chips, cracks, foxing, bends, tears, fading, losses, damage or repairs other than a few small scrapes to the finish on the frame and a small shallow crease to the paper. ... A charming pastel portrait by Dorothy Colles which (according to the attached plaque) was commisioned for a "Trufood" advertizing poster. Dorothy Colles (1917-2003) was, according to an obituary in the Independent newspaper,"gifted in portraits of children". She has exhibited through the Royal Academy and the Royal Society of Portrait Painting. There is a water 'splash' above the head of the boy which we have not attempted to restore.
