This fabulous pencil drawing depicts two U.S. navy warships of the early 19th century. The ship on the right is no doubt the USS Constitution and the much smaller vessel on the left also flies the U.S. flag and appears to have the profile of a modest sized schooner. Each flies a flag in the style of the Betsy Ross flag of the 1780s with the stars arranged in a circle, suggesting the artist either dated from this period, or more likely, was simply depicting the Constitution in use during this per...
