Charming clown doll, made circa 1940 by listed IL artist Louise Woodroofe (1892-1996). Ms. Woodroofe, an art professor at the University of Illinois, traveled with the Ringling Bros. circus during summers in the 1930's, and has become well known for her depictions of circus life. She was primarily a painter, but occasionally created figural dolls, such as this one.
