This lovely oil on canvas landscape painting signed and dated 1836 by John Rowson Smith (American, 1810-1864) is a prime example of the Hudson River Valley Style. This painting is very similar to examples found in John K. Howat’s "The Hudson River and Its Painters," The Viking Press. The Hudson River School was America’s first homegrown, coherent and sizable group of landscape artists.
