English School, c. 1830. Portrait of a young woman with upswept brown curls and blue eyes. She is wearing a red gown with white ruffled bodice and has two roses in her hair. Brass frame. Oval, 4 1/2 cms. diameter (1 1/2 inches). Very good condition

Watercolor and gouache on paper, 8.75 inches x 11.25 inches (sight), 14 inches x 16.25 inches framed. Signed/inscribed "Deutsches Ordensspital zu Troppau 1939 V. Planckh", upper left. At the time this was painted, Planckh was apparently staying at the hospital in Troppau where his wife was seriously ill. Two years later Planckh died in the invasion of Athens. The work is a touching attempt to seek out the beautiful in the midst of the chaos of war.

Blue background. Signed in pencil to reverse, "F Boyd Walters RMS". Very pretty embossed brass frame. Rectangular, 10 cms. X 3 1/4 cms. (4 1/4 inches X 3 1/4 inches).

Oil on canvas, 20 x 30 inches (sight), plus frame, signed lower right, exhibited at the Spring Exhibition of the Art Association of Montreal, 1947. During WW II, the artist was posted to remote, tiny Spider Island, a radar station off the coast of British Columbia. This enforced isolation produced a small body of work which was exhibited to wide acclaim after the war. Watercolor of an area called Ramblersville, present day West Hamilton Beach, Queens New York. This, I believe, is a rare view of the fishermans squatter shacks built along Hawtree Creek following the civil war. On the back is written Ramblersville L.S.. L.S. is probably an abbreviation for looking south. A similar watercolor by this artist sold at Weschler's auction house in DC on 24 April 04, sale 1276 lot #626. This is in excellent condition.
