Double-sided shield-shaped French school portrait miniature in watercolor on ivory of a young gentleman, with a fabulous sentimental hair picture on the reverse, circa 1815. The dashing young gent has fashionably disheveled brown hair; he wears a blue coat, a white waistcoat and a tall, elaborately tied cravat. The reverse reveals a beautiful sentimental scene, featuring intertwined hair initials “L” and “D” each in a different color of hair, under the inscription (also in hair) “amour/amitie”... Late 18th century miniature portrait of Marie Antoinette, after Vigee le Brun. This portrait of the tragic French Queen has been copied by many painters and miniaturists -- this one is period, and excellent. Set in a gilt mount within a blue enamel-bordered frame; blue silk reverse. Excellent condition; silk on reverse is somewhat shattered. Measures 4” in diameter; sight size is 3 1/8”.

Portrait miniature in watercolor on ivory of a gentleman, circa 1795, signed “Lasal.p.” The gent has powdered and curled hair and wears a white cravat and dark blue coat. Beautiful hair reverse with a curl of light brown hair held together by a band of pearls and thread and laid over darker plaited hair. Set in gilt metal frame. Very good condition: ivory has shrunk and shifted a bit, leaving a gap around the top and right edges. Measures 3 1/8” by 2 1/2”.

Portrait circa 1840, English or American, of a young gentleman, possibly a cleric, with black cravat, white waistcoat and black coat, set in a leather frame. Sight size 2 7/8" high; frame is 6 1/2". Painting is in excellent condition; leather frame is scuffed and worn; glass is scuffed around the edges. Measures 6 1/2” by 4 7/8”; sight size 2 7/8” by 2 1/4”.

He has a spot of retouch at the one o’clock edge and 3/4” crack at five o’clock, probably resulting from the relocation into this case. Measures 3 1/2" by 3"; sight size is 2 1/2” by 2”.

Portrait miniature in oil on ivory of a lady wearing a very striking black turban, circle of James Leakey (British, 1775-1865). The lady’s black curly locks are adorned with the turban, which features a pom pom! She wears a black dress with a white fichu and a black ribbon choker. Set in the original gold pendant frame with a gorgeous cobalt glass reverse. Excellent condition; just a little dirt under the glass. Measures 2 3/4" by 2 1/4”.

A portrait miniature in watercolor on ivory of a lovely, by the English miniaturist Anne Mee (1770/5-1851). Mee was a pupil of George Romney and Richard Cosway. By the time she was twenty, she was fully employed by the Prince of Wales. She was an expensive and successful miniaturist.
