Delightful English portrait miniature in watercolor on ivory of a beautiful young woman, circa 1850. She wears a décolleté white dress with a pink rose at the corsage; her glossy dark hair is smoothly pulled back. Set in a gold engraved frame with braided three-color brown hair reverse. Red leather traveling case lined with worn velvet and silk. Good condition: some dirt under the glass; hair braid is unraveling. Measures 2 ¾” by 2 ¼”.

Delightful pair of English School portrait miniatures, depicting a lady and a gentleman, circa 1830. Both sitters wear black, he with a white stock, she with a white lace collar and what looks like a Wedgwood cameo! They are frame together in a red leather case. Condition is excellent. Absolutely wonderful portrait miniature in watercolor on ivory of a young gentleman, possibly Swedish, circa 1800. The rosy cheeked youth wears a white waistcoat, white chemise with stickpin, black stock, and black coat, the collar edged in white or light blue piping. He is beautifully painted and in excellent condition. Set in a gilt metal mount with gilded slip in a papier mache frame. Sight size is 1 ¾” by 1 3/8”; frame measures 5” by 4 5/8”.

A charming pair of early 19th century English School miniatures on ivory, set into gold and gilt metal studs . The first depicts a young girl wearing a white dress and bonnet, her sweet face looking straight ahead. The other stud features a hairwork memorial scene of two doves on a tomb or plinth, surrounded by a garnet border. One can only guess whether the two are related! Condition is very good; slight fading of the girl’s face. The girl measures 9/16”; the doves are ½”.

English portrait miniature in watercolor on ivory of a gentleman with a mole below his moth, circa the turn of the 18th century. The portrait is attributed to Peter Paillou, Jr. (1757-after 1831), who practiced his art in London and Glasgow. The sunset background and smoothly painted face are characteristic of Paillou.
