English portrait miniature in watercolor on ivory of a gentleman with a mole below his moth, circa the turn of the 18th century. A wonderful portrait miniature of a gentleman with pink powdered hair, by English master Henry Bone (1755-1834). This comical gent wears a blue coat, white waistcoat and white frilly cravat. The portrait is signed with Bone’s monogram and dated: “HB 1793.” A modern label on the reverse indicates the piece is in watercolor on card; I’m quite sure it’s ivory. Bone started his career painting china, eventually moving to London, where he enjoyed a successful career as a miniaturist, working in ena... Click for details
