A French School mourning portrait miniature in watercolor on ivory of a lady, circa 1785. She wears a red dress with a white fichu; her hair is fashionably powdered. Set in a gold frame with plaited hair reverse. Measures 2 ¼”. Good condition; small white deposit at one o’clock on hair reverse.

Miniature portrait in watercolor on ivory of a young gentleman, labeled “Gentleman c 1800”, attributed to Anne Foldsone Mee (1770-1851). Mee was a pupil of George Romney and Richard Cosway. By the time she was twenty, she was fully employed by the Prince of Wales. She was an expensive and successful miniaturist; portraits of men by Mee are scarce. Measures 4 ¼” by 3 ¾”; sight size 2 ¼”. Wonderful condition (apologies for glare!).

19th century portrait miniature of a severely handsome lady, beautifully painted in watercolor on ivory. The artist has captured her piercing stare and slightly sneering mouth. Her black hair is looped back in braids and she wears a black dress with frothy lace fichu and cuffs. Set in bevelled glass, rectangular gilt frame, backed with brown velvet. Measures 2 3/8” by 1 7/8”. Very good condition.

A 19th century English portrait miniature in watercolor on ivory, set in a silver frame, with a hair reverse set with paste stones. The sitter is a lady with lovely red hair, wearing a white lace fichu, gold earrings and gold brooch. The reverse is spectacular: two gorgeous feathered curls of her deep red hair on white silk under glass, surrounded by a border of small paste stones. Measures 2 1/2 by 2 inches. Condition is excellent; one paste stone deficient.

Portrait miniature on ivory set in a 15K gold pierced brooch frame, circa the early 19th century. The sitter is a very stern lady, wearing a frilly white bonnet and ruff, and a black gown. The miniature is set in a 15K gold brooch with pierced floral frame and glazed reverse with braided brown hair. Frame measures 2 inches; sight size is 1 1/2 inches. Condition; very good; colors bright and fresh; slight water mark in background at 2 o'clock; some solder marks on frame.

A portrait miniature in enamel, French School, circa 1720. The sitter is an extremely beautiful lady with powdered hair, wearing a lace-trimmed black dress and red mantle. She is set in a silver frame with a brooch-clasp attachment and blue enamel reverse; measures 1 1/8 inches tall. Condition is very good: there are a few very narrow retouched scratches in the surface of the enamel at the sitter's neckline, together with a very minor chip on her neck.

Condition: Good. Needs cleaning (spot of dirt on one cheek). Small gaps at top and bottom. Measures 3 1/2 by 2 3/4 inches (sight size 2 1/2 by 1 3/4 inches).
