Maruyama Oshin (1790-1838): Cockerel, Hen and Chicks under Cherry Blossom;
It is very finely excuted with Cockerel, hen and chicks are feeding under a cherry blossom tree and birds on the tree. Hanging scroll, painted in ink and color on silk, signed Oshin and sealed on lower right, mounted on brocade silk with fitted
and inscribed box. It is in very good condition with no any damages at all. It measures 20” x 46 1/4”

This finely executed provincial Japanese byobu (floor screen) has been recently restored and remounted in two parts. The tranquil scene of poets enjoying a tea ceremony surrounded by attendants in a peaceful pavilion is executed in suitably muted tones highlighted by firm reds and subtle gilt details. Japanese, Eighteenth Century, Edo Period, each section is approximately 37-1/2 inches high and 50 inches wide.
