Early 20th century Dutch harbor scene by Gerard Wiegman (1875-1964). The painting depicts a large cargo ship moored at harbor and surrounded by a variety of smaller ships, fishing boats and tugs. The sky is painted in moody shades of grays that echo the colors of the dark smoke rising from the other large ships in the background. Bernard Johann de Hoog, Dutch, 1867-1941. This charming example of de Hoog's work is oil on canvas with an original early 20th C frame. It is clearly signed and in good condition. It is about 20" by 26.75" in a very nice early 20th C frame 25" by 31.75" framed. De Hoog is know for his genre scenes of Mother and Child in the Kitchen. He has extensive auction records and his paintings sell for up to $45,000.

Langer was born on Dec. 11th 1860 in Leipzig, Germany. After becoming a journey painter he was admitted to The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts (Copenhagen, Denmark) in 1877 after studying under W. Kyhn and Sigurd Konstantin-Hansen. He graduated from there in 1886.
