A wonderful, varied landscape scene by Henry Varnum Poor titled "The River Valley". Oil on canvas, signed lower right. Dimensions: 18" x 24" (unframed); 23.5" x 29.5" (framed).
Henry Varnum Poor (1888-1970) is best known for figure studies, landscapes, portraits and murals. Poor was born in Kansas in 1888, graduated from Stanford University in 1910 and then traveled to London and studied with Walter Sickert at the Slade School. Pauline Lennards Palmer (1865-1938) was an artist, lecturer and leader in art organizations. In her lifetime, Palmer was often regarded as one of the most important American women painters.
