Small, Framed Watercolor Landscape with Villa

Offered here is a small framed painting of what appears to be an Italian landscape with a small villa on a hill. The painting is rendered in watercolor and it is done quite skillfully. It is framed in an antique frame of ebonized wood with a water gilded fillet and outer edge. I think the painting may date to the early 20th century, the frame seems earlier. The frame measures 8.5" by 6.5", the image is 5.5" by 3.5".

American, died Tucson, c. 1980); was known for French street scenes, theatre sets (as this one). He worked as a commercial artist, and was the artistic originator of the "Jolly Green Giant."
