Drunken Silenus with Bacchante and Satyr, Model: Probably French, c. 1700, after designs by Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1640), Bronze Dore, 18.5 cm (7-1/4 in.), only 5 other known models each varies slightly in its details; Musee du Louvre, Musee d'Art Decoratifs, Stockholm, Braunshweig, and Wallace Collection, London. This is the only known gilt-bronze version of the composition.

Sheet bronze, 11 inches max. ht. signed "Gunn" on base. Homer Gunn was born in Woonsocket, RI and raised in Uxbridge, Mass. He studied at the Rhode Island School of Design from 1938 to 1941 and after graduating attended the Art Students League for an additional year. He taught from 1942 to 1957, last at Deerfield Academy. Among Gunn's dozens of public (and private) commissions are the War Memorial in Greenfield, Mass. (his most monumental work) and sculptures for the Boston Symphony Orchestra... Click for details
