here we have a wonderful old sculpture of Napoleon (I assume)that looks like fine unpolished alabaster, but all the more interesting for what it is. I was told it was "pretty early" by the dealer I bought it from but, never having seen a salt sculpture, I have no way to verify the age. Really, I didn't care anyway, because I love the way it looks. However much time there has been has softened the details and distilled the sculpture to it's essential haunting beauty. It is lovely. It stands ... Click for details

Extraordinary apprx. 30" x 18" x 14" mixed metal sculpture of sprouting seed, done in mixed metals, with medium brown patina. A work of exceptional craftsmanship, and a one of a kind piece. Purchased from a Chicago estate as a sculpture by Helene Hibben (b. 1882), but the piece is not signed, so I am unable to document it is such. It certainly stands on it's own as a very fine sculpture.

An exceptional plaster figure of the Aphrodite of Melos.
The original from the 2nd century BC was found in 1820 by a peasant named Yorgos in an underground cavern on the Aegean island of Melos.
It was offered on March 1, 1821 to Louis XVIII who presented it to the Louvre.
Her graceful body symbolizes an ideal of beauty.
The French named her Venus de Milo. High quality, I think that it is made by the famous Louvre's workshops.
Origine: France circa 1920. Dimensions: 35.1/2in.(90cm) high.... Click for details
