It is signed "Ruth Lee Leventhal" and dated "75" on the bronze base. This sculpture also bears a brass plaque giving the name of the artist, the title of the work, and the abbreviation FRSA (Leventhal was a fellow of the Royal Society of Artists, London). Original mid-century patinated brass or bronze sculpture by Rene Shapshak (France-South Africa-Canada, 1899-1985). Shapshak studied sculpture at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris. He has an extensive exhibition record. This work measures approximately 16" with the base, 13" without. It is signed "Rene Shapshak" in incised script on the lower part of the sculpture.
