PROFESSOR OTTO POERTZEL (1876-1963), one of the greatest Art Deco sculptors in Germany, was born in Scheibe in 1876. The son of a porcelain designer, he studied under Professor R. Moller at the Porcelain Industrial Technical School and set up in Coburg as a sculptor during the 1920s-30s. In 1908 he went to study at the Munich Academy with Professor Erwin Kurz, who was a famous teacher and sculptor of public statues, and professor Adolph von Hildebrandt at the Munich Academy. This chryselephantine silvered bronze figurine by the Austrian sculptor, Josef Lorenzl (1892-1950), features polychrome floral painted decoration attributed to Crejo. Cast signature "Lorenzl". Figurine is mounted on its original green onyx stone pedestal. Entire piece (including pedestal) measures 12.75" by 4" by 2.75" and weighs 2 lbs. Dates from the height of the Art Deco period. This is a very interesting large 28 inches tall with a 8 inch base bronze statue. It weighs about 45 pounds.
