This is a work by highly regarded American artist THOMAS WILLOUGHBY NASON (1889-1971). Nason was a Boston-born artist who by the late 1920's had taught himself the fine art of creating prints in the wood engraving process. This process was popular for illustrating books in the 19th century but by the twentieth it had fallen from favor. He revived the medium and truly excelled at it. By the early 1930's he had been exhibited at Boston's prestigious landmark Goodspeeds book store...

TWO pen and ink drawings, identical size and frames, 9 7/8" by 7 5/8", one titled "Down the Gulch" and the other "Slave Quarters, Glen Haven, Colo.", each signed "A.C." and one dated 1936. I don't know who "A.C." might be/have been, but, if you collect Colorado art, you might like this pair of drawings of a mountain road and a mountain cabin. You might wish to reframe them. If anyone knows who the artist is, please do let me know.

This is an eye-catching painting of good size, by an artist demonstrating tremendous skill in the handling of light. The alpenglow on the distant peaks at sunset (dawn?), the shadowed areas, the areas in bright sun.....all handled with great control...

By the famous and important American-born artist who lived much of his life in Europe, this is a PAIR of unframed portrait paintings of a middle aged man and middle aged woman, one signed on the reverse "Cucuel" and dated there 1934, the other not signed. The portrait of the man (on the reverse of which is a lightly sketched out female face) measures 30" by 25 1/2" and that of the woman 25 1/2" by 20". These are works by the important San Francisco born artist EDWARD ALFRED CUCUEL (1875-1954)...

I did some research and determined that that name was a pen name for RICHARD HUELSENBECK (1892-1974), one of the earliest founders and participants in the Dada phenomenon in the teens and 1920's...

Oil on canvas painting of a forest interior in browns and greens, 14" by 20", unframed, signed at lower left by the noted American late 19th century painter ARTHUR PARTON (1842-1914). Parton was born on the Hudson River and went on to become a well known painter of that river and the Adirondack and Catskill Mountains. He is described as a second generation Hudson River painter, who also moved into impressionism and Tonalism...

This appears to be an image in gouache on top of some kind of waxy scratchboard, measuring 10" by 14" (17" by 20 3/4" as framed), signed at lower left "DE GUST" and dated there "59". I can't find a listing for the artist but he or she painted in a classic style pioneered by the likes of Jean Le Mayeur and others in the history of modern Indonesian art. The painting is in excellent condition, and is ready for the wall in its simple black frame and clean mat.

Oil on canvas painting of the familiar and oft-painted flower market at the Madeleine in Paris, 25 1/2" by 19 1/2" (31 1/4" by 25 1/2" in attractive above-average distressed look framing), signed at lower left by mid century Parisian artist H. PIERREL. I do not see a listing for the artist but have not searched extensively, although I have encountered other works by this talented hand. The painting is of a nice size and should please any Francophile...

The work measures 14 1/2" by 9 1/2" in likely the original gold frame (now with a missing area at top right corner). A cleaning would work wonders. A rare opportunity to acquire a fine original drawing (13 1/4" by 10 3/8", and 20 1/2" by 16 1/2" in quality mid-century framing) by the world-famous American writer and painter HENRY VALENTINE MILLER (1891-1980).
