Christian Hocquet was born in Gosselies, Belgium. He was an autodidact and made oil paintings, drawings, pastels, watercolours, he was a graphic artist and an illustrator. Human beings are always present in his works. His works are realistic, sometimes slighlty deformed in an expressionist manner and show social engagement with the less fortunate.

Guy Peron was an artist who specialized in marine and boat paintings and worked mostly in Normandy and on both sides of the English Channel. He studied at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux Arts. His work has been exhibited in a number of museums, in Bordeaux, Rochefort, Fecamp, and in galleries in France and in the USA.

Oil-on-artist board, signed lower right. Having a pencil inscription on the reverse (of a later date) which reads:
“Cabbies backed into Dupont Circle, 1905 - a statue of Dupont where (the) fountain is now. This was the cab stand for some 20 or more carriages...
A finely done silhouette of a gentleman, in its original frame and convex glass. Most silhouettes are hollowcut or cut and paste, with the painted examples, as this one is, being much rarer. The artist, using watercolor and pen and ink, showed his skill with his beautiful rendering and interesting attention to embellishments along the skull line, neck, etc.
The painting and frame are in excellent condition, with no tears, folds, restoration...
