Carved from dried cottonwood root, this Hopi male figure may be a Farmer. Carved by Kevin Chavarria of First Mesa, this human caricature is 10 1/2" tall and hangs like an old style Kachina.

Particularly nice is his face with exagg erated features of nose and lips. Decorated with a bandana and leather pouch and breechcloth. The color is Kevin's signature "red".... Click for details

Tony's quality work is nothing less than spectacular, always handmade 100% by himself. The 10mm sterling beads in this necklace are handmade and hand stamped as are the substantial sterling cones, stamped with the artist's hallmark.

Sleeping Beauty Turquoise was used in the making of this small deep blue nugget necklace. Each Turquoise nugget is spaced with tiny olive shell heishi, with an additional 3 inches of olive shell on each side in back. The pretty choker measures 17 inches in length, end to end, was designed and handmade by a Santo Domingo woman, currently living on the Pueblo. There has been no color added to the Turquoise.

The Navajo Indian weavers were encouraged to experiment with native plants and to document the recipes during the 1930s and 40s by Sally and Bill Lippincott at the Chinle Trading Post. One of the Navajo ladies was Mabel Burnside Myers, daughter of famed silversmith John Burnside. As a way to preserve the samples of plant colors, she created a dye chart with plant dyed wool connecting the plants to a small weaving loom and rug sample, under framed glass. ...
