This snuff bottle is an outstanding work of art. It is Blanc de Chine porcelain, hard to work with, yet all of the delicate onlayed elements applied to the bottle fit in perfect form. Each of these bottles are unique and the design pressings are hand applied. This bottle is not old, but it is of a quality that will put it into a very fine catagory. There are no flaws, there was a dirt speck on the back that cleaned off the piece. It is a wonderful addition to a collection and will increase in va... Click for details

This charming Chinese folk painting of embroidered felt liners for shoes comes from a rural area in the north of Shaanxi Province. It was painted by a peasant woman who used for her subject the embroidery she was doing for her children, and so merges the centuries-old folk tradition of needlework with the later artistic expression of paint on paper. The Luochuan painting community was among more than 50 such groups that began emerging in China in the late 1950s. (See "The Best of Modern Chinese ... Click for details

In a short time most reverse painted snuff bottles being done in China will use a phototransfer technique, not hand painted. Some are very hard to tell. This spectacular reverse painted bottle is done by hand and done by a very skilled painter from the inside of the bottle using a bent brush. Wonderful details, figures, water, mountains and everything you want in a Landscape bottle. It is newer perhaps less than 10 years old. It is blown good quality glass, carnelian stopper, bone-ivory spoon. I... Click for details

In a folk painting from a rural painting community in Huxian County, Shaanxi Province, a herd of fluffy longhorn sheep are brought down a mountain path by a young boy and girl. The painter, in an inspired flight of fancy, adorned the sides of the sheep with colorful circular designs of pinwheels, flowers and stars. Gouache on paper, the piece is unsigned as was generally the case for art from China's peasant painting communities. Huxian was the site of the first such community, established in 19... The plump traditional prosperity Buddha, or childrens buddha is the choice for this nice snuff bottle. Cinnabar has gone through many transitions in China. The older softer is quite toxic to workers and collectors. This is a type of cinnabar that was put into production about 30 years ago. It is a newer form of cinnabar, not as soft or toxic as older. This bottle has a lot of hand work, it is a bit larger than most snuff bottles at about 3" wide at base. It has a bone spoon. A very nice decorati... Click for details

This type of snuff bottle was made in one factory. They are not common. It is mouth blown glass with ring in ring sides. It is very well painted in reverse from the inside of the bottle. It comes in original fabric covered box. This one is not new, a good estimate would be two to three decades old. It is almost 3 1/2" tall. A really lovely piece.
