This style of Japanese green and red silk kimono is called kasuri, referring to a type of pre-weaving dyeing of the threads that is similar to ikat. A beautiful piece.
This rare and beautiful silk double-sided obi was made early in the 20th century. Colors are silver and white, with details in black and gold. The motives include a repeated phoenix, chrysanthemums and peonies. It would make a wonderful hanging or table runner. 12 1/5" by 149".
