Celadon ceramics, usually thought of as green, are produced in Thailand in this gorgeous shade of blue as well as in many shades of green. The term "celadon" refers to the fine crackles on the surface of ceramics rather than color, and for this vase Thai potters combined cobalt with traditional celadon firing techniques for a stunning result. A lotus leaf pattern encircles the shoulder, and a broad band of loosely sketched flowers decorates the mid-section. The base is signed by the potter. This... Click for details

While the form of this old Javan handle is one of the most common found this variation with the "fat belly" is not. A similar handle sold for almost $3000 back in the 1990's at Christie's in Amsterdam! This piece originates from the Suryakarta court in central Java from about 1900. Made of a beautifully grained hardwood, it has darkened and has fine patina of age. The carving of the demon masks on the front is deep and fine. All in all a top example of the type in excellent condtion. Has a... Click for details

This is one of the best examples of a Palembang keris handle that I have ever seen. I had collected keris for 20 years until I recently sold most of my collection to the Birmingham Museum of Art. The collection was shown at the Birmingham museum and the St. Petersburg Art Museum in Florida. See images below. The blade on this keris is relatively new and woderfuly 3 dimensional in the pattern ( unfortunately this effect is only visible in person ), the sheath and hilt are old circa 1900. The...
