Adorable Hakata art doll of a girl in a traditional fine hand painted black kimono with a lovely bamboo design and a very lovely face with pony tail hair. She is holding a “Sensu” (fan). A colorful orange Obi in her waist makes her kimono more revealing. Hakata dolls, which originate in Fukuoka prefecture in Japan, usually take 2-4 weeks to finish a piece. This superb grouping of early (1994) Sulton Rogers wood carved figures was purchased directly from the artist, who was the last of the great Mississippi wood carvers. The figures are fresh to the market, just deaccessed from a distinguished outsider art collection. They range in height from 9 to 11-1/2 inches.
