17th - 18th century Mughal – Deccani Gold Damascened dagger (Jambiya). A curved double-edged tapering steel blade and a waisted oval section hilt damascened in gold coftagari with scrolling floral tendrils issuing from a central rosette, a band of floral mender above and below. Reference: A Mughal dagger of similar hilt is published in the Christie's catalogue of Islamic Art and Indian Miniatures, London 28 April 1998 at a price of £2,500-3,000. This is one of the most dramatic and sought after forms of African sword. It is the sword of a Ngombe warrior dating to about 1850. The Ngombe migrated from the Nile in the 16th century, driving out indigenous peoples in their way. They were active through the period of slavery and notorious as bandits into the early 20 thanks century. This is a Japanese war arrow dating to the 18th century. It is 35 3/4” total length with a heavy cane shaft and carved bone nock. It has spotted brown goose feather fletching and there is a name branded below the fletching. The head is a large “sparrow bill” form. Samurai were excellent archers. This arrow is from a larger set and we have four matching.

This is an unmounted blade for an English cavalry sword of about 1760. It is 32 5/8" long plus the tang(6 1/16"). The tang is forged but not fit to a hilt indicating that the blade was never mounted. We purchased it along with ten others, in two lots at the sell off of surplus arms, and armour from the Tower of London in 1966 which is the first place that “surplus” parts were sold by a major auction house.
