Very similar. Elaborately detailed blade with double back lugs, single fore, high raised back vein and double large piercings. Brass wire and tack decorated grip shows dark patina and wear from use. Blade shows some surface oxidation mixed with hammer finish and few small nicks to the cutting edge.

Form identical to Fisher #109, that example varying only in having a figural grip attesting to the quality of both examples. Iron blade full 21” along the back large base lugs. Double circular piercing. Crisply detailed with original hammer finish throughout Wood hilt with twisted and flat steel band wrap, shows dark patina with medium encrustation.

Showing distinct Kuba influence. 23 1/2? length. Iron blade with thick bolster and original hammer finish. Elegant carved wood hilt with diamond form flared base, banded barrel form grip and cylindrical pommel carved with Kuba form geometry in panels. The base with similarly carved borders. Hilt shows medium to heavy encrustation over fine glossy patina. Evidently no comparable example is recorded. Doubly rare with Baptist Missionary Society provenance.

Classic example. 23 1/2” d.e. blade of wasp waisted form with flared base and expanded point. Stippled panel at the forte continuing down the medial. Finely carved wood hilt with baluster medial, large fluted inverted conical pommel and delicately contoured base. Hilt shows rich patina through medium age encrustation. Blade quite crisp with original hammer finish. One edge slightly irregular from a lamination flaw.

Archaic form (Fischer #251), probably dating to 18th century-1800. 21 5/8” length with broad slightly waisted blade divided into four panels by hatched medial and ridged edge borders. Alternate panels of flat depressed configuration. Leather covered wood grip decorated with cabled wire work and vertical forged iron bars. The blade though approximately spatulate, of asymmetrical form, with distinct hook to the tip and the inside edge straighter than the outside. Fine stipple bordered medial and blade thickness near double the other examples. Stitched leather covered grip of narrower form and made without decoration. 24 1/2” overall. Blade of more spatulate form with large stipples bordering the central fuller. Wire and tack wrapped stitched leather covered grip. Iron wire cage and radial piques. Iron pommel cap. Shows wear and use with smooth glossy patina. Grip wire slightly raveled but could be laid down if desired.

Classic example. See Fischer #252. 27” overall and made for rapid hacking with its spatulate form double edged blade with slightly depressed medial bordered by large stippled bands. Grip of stitched leather over cord wrap, the lower section with brass trade wire wrap and trade tacks. Upper terminal with slender iron bar “cage” motif and radial iron piques. Slightly larger. 28 1/8” length. Similar in construction with slightly more elongated blade tip and significantly heavier proportions to the hilt. The stitched seam leather covered grip set with protruding brass studs to give better purchase and clear indication of the calloused hand for which it was made! Sound. Rich patina and some superficial pitting to the blade as collected.

Wood hilt of typical form with early characteristics including tapered swelling top segment and plain tapered bolster. Shows great age. The blade with some mixed hammer and rust texture. Hilt shows great age with medium encrustation over rich glossy patina from use.
