19th century and almost surely captured during the Benin Punitive Expedition of 1897 which destroyed Benin and thus dates such artifacts to that action or before. Just under 5 feet length with leaf forged leaf shaped head over rectangular section bolster decorated both sides with hatched elongated diamond motifs. Elegant form with 7 1/4” down turned blade expanding toward the point in kukri form. That feature moves the center of percussion forward for a more effective blow. Turned wood grip with slightly expanded butt and incised line above the copper base ferrule. Grip shows rich glossy patina. Blade quite smooth with gray patina and original forged texture evident throughout.

11 1/2” blade of wedge section tapering to the point and characteristic swelled profile. Wood grip with expanded butt and braided split cane base band. Grip shows rich glossy patina with old shrinkage crack. Blade smooth with dark patina and minor blemishes from use.

pattern matching for blade, grip and back strap. Plated guard of melon slice form decorated with zigzag circular perforations. Hilt excellent with some rust speckles to the base ferrule only, grip shows few very minor blemishes. Unplated blade, quite smooth with single edge nick and some tiny speckles pitting toward the point. Only example we have ever encountered.

4 3/4” broad fullered s.e. blade with floral engraving to the back and completely extending over the exposed tang. Large black horn scale grips over brass and cow horn layers, inset with copper piques. Minor flaking/lamination to the ear tips otherwise excellent throughout. Greece was ruled by the Ottoman Turks until 1827 and weapon styles emulated Turkish taste.
