One of the the finest examples we have encountered. 45 1/4” long of tapered palm wood with two rows of needle like shark’s teeth lashed between slender splints and secured with sennet. The hilt encased in finely woven split grasses which cover the butt and wrap up the handle. A little wear at the butt edge, very minor raveling to the wrap and a few teeth with the tips broken. A fine old club collected in new condition and showing only minor deterioration from age and handling.

OF THE SCOTTISH REBELLION PERIOD C.1725
In exceptional preservation for these, the straight double fullered blade is crisp with its original sharply angled point intact and maker's mark at the forte. The hilt has a maker's mark or initial D on the under side of the cross guard. The form, as with the following example, suggests a Glasgow workshop.

The bodyguard of the Doge of Venice was comprised of Schiavone. In flamboyant Turkish costume and armed with their elegant broadswords, schiavonas, they rivaled the winged hussars of their northern neighbor, Poland for flair ... Click for details

This dirk with its stout 11" blade of "hollow triangular" section incorporates a thick root which is characteristic for the period and bears two makers' marks. The iron cross guard is beautifully made in the rococo style. The one piece staghorn grip reflects a fashion which became popular in the late 18th century when the pressures of global war demanded that the Scots be rearmed and recognized once again as fierce fighters. The silver ferrule and pommel cap are unhallmarked which is typical ... Click for details

This halberd represents the weapon in its optimum form. The head is sculpturally ingenious and finely forged as well as functional. The right side bears several shallow cuts sustained in combat. The right back fluke bears a crisp stamp in the form of a heart which is either an arsenal or town control mark.
