Wonderful antique bronze medallion box with a raised profile of the Duke of Wellington on one side,
and a dedication to him on the reverse side. The two halves separate to reveal eleven double sided paper discs listing his battles, and two one sided discs set into the top and bottom. A fascinating paper toy, or a historical momento of Wellington's battles. Quite an unusual piece.

Vikings occupied more than half of England (that portion known as Danelaw) for over two centuries. Research was brought to a new level with the excavations at York in the 1970’s and
continuing today as well as the continued research on Gotland Island and other sites. In the past three decades, positive identification of whole bodies of Viking material, previously unclassified, has been made. Items #144-#196 are Viking, and were found in England unless otherwise noted.

My knowledge of naval architecture is limited , but my guess is this ship model is North African or Mediterranean style--it has a hand carved hull-good condition-couple port hole insets missing--made in the 1930s and restored later-sails and rigging are newer than hull--26 inches high with woven basket crows nest-20 inches wide-has elaborate rudder system and a strange device on prow mast--unusual design
