This cute rat netsuke is made of mammoth ivory and is quite detailed. Tusks of the extinct wooly mammoth are mined in Alaska and Siberia and the ivory is highly sought after.
The ivory is a natural ivory. Because the tusks have been in the ground for 10,000 - 40,000 years, they have absorbed minerals so that the outer part of the tusk may have brown tones.
This rat netsuke is quite detailed and obviously carved by a true craftsman...

Weller Pottery is one of the most recognized and valued. The design of this vase is Jap Birdimal and quite rare. It was created by Frederick Hurten Rhead while he worked for Weller, 1903 - 1904.
This Jap Birdimal vase is 11 inches tall, 5 3/4 inches at its widest, 2 1/2 inches at the narrowest and the base is 4 1/8 inches in diameter. It is a dusty pink decorated with creamy storks in flight.
The bottom is marked "WELLER" and the vase is free of damage...
The set was made by Weller in the 1920's. Florala was one of the prettiest of the Weller cream colored wares. Can't you picture the set with a bowl full of flowers and lighted candles as it would have been used in the 20's.
It is extremely hard to find a console set with all original pieces that have no damage or repairs. I bought this set from a lady who bought the set when new so all of the pieces have the same mold crispness and deep, original color...
Nice cockade for Luftschutz visor cap. Nice, even silver wash to the wreath with very gentle rub wear to the high relief of the oak leaves. Red felt center is complete. Multiple piece construction with pleasant, even patina on reverse indicating all pieces have been together as a unit for the duration. Nice example of a difficult piece of insignia to find.
