Pekinese of old and Beijingers of today use cricket cages like this to hold a cricket on a walk in the park or on the way to a cricket fight., The cage is made of a gourd molded to this shape After being collected the gourd is fitted with a wooden top (here made of ebony wood ) The little cage is then fitted for a small sack for ease of carrying and to protect the critter from the cold . The top is made or carved tortoise shell – so it can breathe, of course.
The sinking of the Lusitania was considered an acceptable act in Germany and a medal was minted in honor of the incident. The British, of course, considered it very much a war crime. They reproduced the German medal and used it as a propaganda tool emphasizing the civilian loss of life. Indeed. on the reverse of the medal we even see Death working the ticket stand for prospective passengers. Medal is in its original box. The box shows solid wear and is missing one edge...
This is a surprisingly good kanji It was done in 1972 slightly beyond Maki’s core period for such small kanji. It is the kanji for Mu or Nothing It is a very abstract character more so than most of Maki’s rendering of Nothing this image is sharp it is concise and it has drive. It has the Maki style and balance : a seal and the bottom margin. It looks sharp the seal at the right is balanced off by the splash at the left

A truly exceptional antique Chinese Qianlong period sword and one of the few genuine examples of this quality offered on the market in the past several years. This example dates from the mid 18th C. Qianlong period. The hilt is composed of the traditional style of vinuous carved gilded copper, or tombac, fittings. These fittings are beautiful carved and have dragons throughout.
The blade is extraordinarily rare and represents one of two known in the world...
Nice WWI sawback bayonet, meant for the guy that likes the used look (I do). The sawback is in fine shape but the edge has been heavily sharpened leading to a narrow middle (See photos). These were intended for pioneer use to clear branches etc, but were popular with the men in the trench who needed every edge possible for business. This looks to have been well used during the war. Blade is marked Simson&Co SUHL...
Great example of a walnut based P08 Luger magazine. Has the Erfurt Arsenal stamp but it a rare example of an unnumbered magazine. These are very desirable as they are sort of the O-type universal donor of Luger magazines. When one is missing a magazine for a numbered Luger this is the easy answer.

This is a lovely Belgian Cavalry saber. German blade makers were very popular with many different countries at the time and this was most certainly a private purchase. The size is very comparable to the U.S. model 1860 cavalry saber so I would date this right around the mid 19th century. The blade is engraved POUR LE ROI - ET LA PATRIE, French for "For King and Homeland". The lion rampant shown on both the blade engraving and the handle indicate this is Belgian...
