Found at the abandoned site of old Fort Conrad, New Mexico in November 1977 by Hank Johnson, this 25mm wide brass temperance token (137.88HJ) has embossed upon it a message that must have been frequently thought of by the owner, as the token was drilled for suspension and was most likely worn around the owner’s neck (a trooper reminding himself of the dangers of alcohol in Apache country?). Fort Conrad, located on the Rio Grande bottoms, only lasted from 1852-1854 before being relocated a few mi... Click for details

Found while metal detecting at the early gold mining camp of Buckskin Joe, Colorado, I had no idea what this gold pan shaped copper pendant was (141.88HJ), but dated 1803 with the Liberty Head above and the word LIBERTY on the obverse, and a spread eagle and words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA on the other, it sure looked like an early US coin! The original site of Buckskin Joe, not the tourist site in the Canyon City area, is located west of Alma in the South Park on the east side of the Mosquito Ra... Click for details

This 38mm wide baggage check (139.88HJ) was found by Hank Johnson decades ago while metal detecting at the deserted Central Pacific RR town of Kelton, Utah, located above the northern shores of the Great Salt Lake. In excellent condition, the check appears to be brass plated copper and is stamped ‘B.B.CO NY 82’ in three lines on one side. The other side is blank. Kelton started in 1868 and lasted until the tracks moved south of the Lake in 1902. The once major town, once a distribution and linki... Click for details

This 29mm wide, perforated brass or copper advertising token (2.90HJ) was found by Hank Johnson while metal detecting at the ghosted town of Old Rouse, Colorado in 1988. In overall very good condition and heavily patinated, the token is embossed on one side with the image of a crown seated atop of which is a longhaired animal, and the words THE 20TH CENTURY SHOE. The other side is unmarked. Not sure why anyone would wear this token in early days, but there must have been a paucity of jewelry and... Click for details
