This is a 2 section antique Japanese kimono chest called Kanto Kasane Tansu. It measures 40.75 "tall, 37" wide, 16.5" deep. Made entirely of Paulownia wood (Kirinoki), it has a secret box hidden behind the lower drawer hidden behind the hinged door on the lower right corner of the piece.
The iron fittings were all hand made and original. Its age is from the 1880's to 1890's (mid Meiji era).

It was made entirely of Paulownia (Kirinoki) wood and the metalworks on the drawers are one of the family crest, Fukura Suzume, sparrow inflated sparrow which has auspicious and good luck meanings.
