Japanese paper-mache mask of raccoon dog as a vintage folk toy from Shizuoka region, with rare unique coloring design, 1980s, 21 x 16 x D 15 cm (8.26 x 6.29 x 5.90in)...

Yuki-boshi (snow hat) or yuki-kabuto (snow helmet) made of palm tree fiber and vegetable indigo dye cotton inside. It has washi painted with Paulownia oil for waterproof, between outside and cotton indigo lining. It is from Shonai region in Yamagata prefecture in Tohoku district. It is said it was worn by "matagi", a hunter. The first half of the 20th century. In good condition with belts inside are left, which is rather rare. 40cm x 50cm
