Written on the inside of the original box is the artists' testimonial to this piece. Carved by famed carver Terada Keitaro (artist name : Kei'in) when he was 71 and his retirement piece. Carved in Showa 29 (1954) he went into Ryozen-zan mountain in Shiga Prefecture and found the perfect wild mulberry wood for his final masterpiece. He states he put his whole spirit and soul into this piece. Signed and in excellent condition. Ask for shipping quote.

Each fox signed on the bottom ‘Kozan’ in archaic script...

Daruma standing tall, wrapped tightly in his garment, the tips of his feet just peeping out. The bottom section of his garment is flapping in the wind. This pose is associated with the episode in which Daruma travels to China, crossing the river Yangzi, while standing on a reed.
The figure was molded in a cast in two halves (front and back) and joined before firing...

Small statue of the face of Okame. Her round, full cheeks and Heian period hairdo give her head the silhouette of a penis. Her open mouth is in the form of a stylized vagina. Shunga of sorts.
Cast bronze with dark brown patina. Good details.

Few casting flaws, otherwise excellent condition

This type of erotic statues are regarded as funny rather than erotic. In Japan they are called waraimono, ‘something (or someone) that makes you laugh’.

The bronze has a fine dark patina. Very fine, expressive sculpture in naturalistic style characteristic of human representation in the Post-War period. - Signed: Yoshiaki. Japan, ca. 1960–1970. H 22.5 cm. Condition: Excellent. *****Tachikawa Yoshiaki (1918 - 2017). He began his training as a sculptor at the College for Fine Arts in Tokyo in 1940 where he remained for a period of 4 years. Fine Vintage Momo Coral carving of a seated Pug French or Japanese, well carved in a seated upright position with beautiful detail no damage signature or holes. Weight is 5.3G and is 23mm h 20mm deep .

Sambaso dancer with the typical high hat (striped eboshi) with a sun disc (round circle) on each side. In his left hand he holds suzu jingle bells; his right hand, on his back, holds a fan. Single block carving (ichiboku); keyaki (zelkova) wood, carved in a faceted way, resembling ittobori, and stained dark brown.

A pair of miniature wood sculpture of Ebisu and Daikoku which are two of the Japanese Seven Dieties believed to bring good luck. Ebisu is a diety of fishery which brings plentiful catch and Daikoku is a diety of agriculture which brings good harvest. Both are in excellent condition with an original wood box. 20th century. H:5cm each, w:3.6cm each.
