A lovely Japanese fruitwood tray produced in the late Taisho period. The scene was hand carved with a thin gold gilt applied in the carved areas. The tray was made from one piece of wood and has a beautiful warm patina. In excellent condition, it measures 10" diameter and the rim is 1.5" high.

The front drops open to reveal three interior drawers and a removable shelf above a large hidden lower compartment. Fleece-lined and hand-made using the old fashioned traditional Chinese methods, only the mid 20th century fabric of the lining and ears identify these shoes as a later made at a later time period. They were probably made by a dotting grandmother and were well worn by a young child.

This is a graceful 10.5" pear shaped vase bearing the seal of Ando Jubei. Enameled an unusual lush shade of plum/brown with a cream accent, it is decorated with silver wire flowers that appear gold against the dark ground. The bottom rim is marked "silver", the counter-enamel is dusty plum.

Condition: No chips, hairlines or repairs. There is minor scuffing to the base rim.

Old Hakoseko (Japanese tissue holder or purse) for times when women wear formal kimono. They are placed in the chest area with the chains of the kanzashi hair ornaments hanging from the obi belt. The beautiful embroidery work (very delicate) on this hakoseko did not show up in the photos. The red color is a much softer tone; this is truely an elegant piece.
