Vintage wooden Japanese sumitsubo - a carpenter line, in a form of a base with a spike, and rotating spoked wheel with a thread on it. Unusual version of the tool - it lacks a vessel part for ink soaked cotton, but has a spike. I am not entirely sure how it functions, but it is probably fixed to a wooden beam by pushing in the spike, and the thread is pulled to the desired point to make a straight line...

Japanese limited edition sosaku hanga woodblock print titled "Yakushi Temple at Hino” by Shiro Kasamatsu (1898-1991) dated 1961. The print is pencil signed at the bottom margin. The artist's black ink signature and red seal is at the lower right corner of the image. The small rectangular "Shiro hanga" seal is in the lower left margin below the penciled edition number of 38. The print is titled in kanji and dated 1961 in the lower margin. Paper: 16 1/2" x 11 1/4" (image: 14 7/16" x 9 3/4")...

The artist's square red seal is at the lower left corner of the image. This print features the highly embossed ideographs characteristic of Maki's work. The designs were created by inscribing on wet cement. Paper size: 19 5/8" x 13 1/2" (image size: 18 3/16" x 12 5/16"). Very good overall condition...
