The bowl is hand shaped, covered in black glaze with a few small areas in which the cream colour clay shows through. It rest very well in the hands! Raku mark impressed to the bottom. H 8 x 12 cm.

A very unusual modern Japanese pottery vase. Exaggerated chatter decoration spiraling from the foot to the shoulder, the tacky clay lifted to a very coarse texture before firing. The neck to rim, also spiraling up the vase, finished smoothly. Apparently in the tradition of the stoneware tile work kilns of Bizen and Tokoname. Studio artist marks in impressed cartouches on the foot. Excellent condition. Height, 8 inches.
A Japanese Arita porcelain plate or dish of circular form raised on a low foot. Decorated in underglaze cobalt blue with a Kingfisher perched amid grasses and lotus fronds, the base has a running Fuku mark. In excellent condition, it measures 6 inches diameter and 1" high.

An interesting modern, abstract koro. The compressed sphere with elliptical, off centered opening. A warm, brown temmoku glaze with darker brown glaze dripping from the top and stopping in controlled fashion above a well - continuing to form the unglazed foot in ogee fashion. 1971 was a big year for Haku Maki He did over 100 different images of Japanese prints. Some, like this one, were big prints--this one, Poem 71-91, is 30.5 Inches x 15.25. It is 68/108. This is the abstract kanji for Mu or Nothing and he titled it Nothing The kanji starts at the top then cascades down to the final four strokes at the bottom. From a distance it appears to me like the steps going from top to bottom of a building on a Chinese hill on the Yangzi. Rare and dramatic,fully restored....

Unusual set of Oribe small bowls in fish form, all signed on base with oval Oribe mark, the bases with crosshatching designs, the flowing glaze of green, tan, and rosy red hues.
