A drum handle from a gompa used by a lama. The handle can be removed for a better handling, especially when the lama had to go for a family ceremony, marriage, funerals etc. the drum; the drum is quite heavy as it is made in a single piece of wood with almost no figurative carving only one chimeric animal on each side. Total height is about 94 cm; handle is 54 cm diameter 42/44 cm and thickness 20 cm.
This type of phurba shows tall, single or twin riders. They all seem to originate from Langtang District and are attributed to the Tamang people. The iconography of the Hayagriva horse is often found in Buddhist iconography. Here, the horses have riders who are the shamans; the mythical horse with its supernatural power will allow the shaman to move around the dangerous invisible world of demons and other evil spirits...

A rare model of Ghurra composed of a chain with 2 square links whose upper link carries an ancestor seated at its top who seems to be in a meditation position. The lower link shows on each of its 4 faces naive sculptures of various mythical animals, elephant, deer, cow, dog and peacock. The ancestor measures 9 cm high, his face measures 3 cm. Important and rather rare ancient statue from West Nepal (Karnali River districts but possibly Jumla region). The statue shows a protector standing with his hands folded in the ritual gesture of Namaste. Note the treatment of the arms showing a rounded rather than angular elbow joint. Very old mask with black soot patina representing a demon or Raktsatsa which is the local name. We can notice the very high quality of sculpture which is a sign of a grade of seniority, at least early 20th century. The mouth is wide open with menacing teeth to accentuate the frightening aspect. It is probable that the shivaite trident improperly engraved on the forehead is posterior to the sculpture of the hardwood mask in excellent condition. H 21 cm
