This piece is signed and dated (GL, 88) and typical of his style, the glaze is a mottled blend of colors, in this instance blues and golds with an incised pattern covering part of the surface. An early studio pottery vase by Gerhard Liebenthron, that is signed and dated. The piece has a primitive decor with incised lines and shapes revealing the reddish earthenware. It has an unusual shape (see the many images) and is in excellent condition. It's about 8 1/2 " tall. Liebenthron started his own workship in Bremen in 1952 so this is a very early work of his and differs very much from his later pieces although abstract figures and designs feature in all of his work. This German studio vase is by Sybille Karrenberg, daughter of the well known ceramic artist, Paul Dresler. He founded the Grootenburg Pottery prior to WWII and their signature works are often glazed in various dark reds and greens and decorated with incised lines.
This piece is c.1970s, signed on the base SK and is quite heavy. It is 10" tall and in fine condition.

This German studio vase was made by Kerstin Unterstab. Unterstab is the name of the studio and it appears to be a family operation as I have another piece with the mark used by Ralf Unterstab. This piece is 4 1/2 inches tall and 13 1/2" in circumference at its widest. Marked on the bottom with Unterstab, the KTU mark for Kerstin and handgemacht (handmade).

This is one of six varying plates in a set matching another catalog item, a V&B cakestand or compote. Each plate is 7 1/2" in diameter. This particular plate shows a hunter with his dog and gun. The rim is adorned with hunting gear, game and dogs. The outer edge has perhaps two flea bites or original flaws, but otherwise the condition is excellent. The impressed mark on the back was used between 1880-1900 by the Villeroy & Boch factory in Septfontaines, Luxemburg.
