Beautiful humidor of carved burled walnut and ivory, C. 1920. Figure is of a French peasant with a detailed carved face and clasped hands of ivory. The burled walnut body is carved in peasant style clothes, complete with neckerchief and wooden shoes.
Very expressive features. The top lifts off just below the arms to allow the figure to hold small cigars, cigarettes, pipe tobacco, or to be used as a small storage vessel. Patina on the wood is wonderful, and the ivory has a rich deep color. ... Click for details

The form of the obelisk originated in Egypt. The Romans stole 13 Egyptian obelisks from Ancient Egypt and set them up in their beautiful piazzas around the Eternal City, where they remain to this day, often topped off and Christianized by the popes with a bronze orb and cross. This small pair (20" tall) was made of wood in Fl... Click for details
