This male mask, called 'shifola', shows the shortened nose and curved forehead of its type. It is also analogous to a type of owl whose beak resembles its nose shape. There is a whole between the nose and lips where a cord was once inserted and knotted. This was the means of keeping the mask on the dancer, his teeth tightly clenching the cord to hold the mask against his face. These masks may have been danced during hunting rites.
