This 26" long quiver (AXH2998) was made by rolling an antelope (?) hide into a tube, and then tying the edge and closed end with cord. This is from the Dr. Allen Heflin collection and is one of the rare pieces on which provenance has not been noted (but probably acquired in the 1960s). I believe it's African in origin, however, and similar to other provenanced pieces that were in his collection. The open end of the quiver was closed with an extended piece of the hide by folding it over the open ... Click for details

This attractive, 22 ½” long, three-toned reed basket (AXH2989) is from Liberia (so-marked on the bottom in black ink). From the late Dr. Allen Heflin collection, he probably acquired it in the mid 1960s while on duty in Rome with the U. S. Department of Agriculture. In excellent condition and a very nice example of the style, it has a raised rim formed by two rods bent into an oval shape, and measures approximately 1 ¾” high at its mid-point side. This would make a very nice centerpiece on a din... Click for details
