This attractive tobacco bottle from French Camaroon, circa 1920, is carved from fine boxwood with the likeness if a Legioniaire in his visored cap, which still bears much of its ebonizing. The bottle opens with a simple screw-cap, and a boxwood spoon is attached by a leather thong through the figure’s neck. Around 5-1/2 inches tall and 1-1/4 inches wide.

This native African gold bead (101.1D HD) was made using the lost wax casting technique. Attributed to the Baule tribe of West Africa, the hollow tube bead tapers from a bulging and decorated center towards both open ends. The natives call the style of this bead ‘ayeke’. Measuring 1 3/8” in length, it is in excellent wearable condition. Because it was made sometime in the latter part of the 20th century, it probably has a fairly high copper content.
