This wonderful Elephant ivory carved tusk comes from a collection of a person that was a Rubber plantation manager in Africa and handed down to his kids. Imported to the USA in 1920s.
There is a small chip on the top of the tusk that broke off, see image, but won’t take away from the beauty. Images should speak for them self.
Carved tusk is 17 ¼ inches tall. Base is 5 3/8 inches by 4 3/8 inches. Top is 5 inches by 4 ½ inches. Weight is about 2900 + grams.

A good example of an Ituri initiation mask, probably from the Lese tribe. The spots on the face are said to represent the leopard, in the sense that the leopard possesses knowledge of the forest that the initiate will need. See Felix, "Ituri" (1992), page 311, plate 60, and page 313, plate 61 for related examples from the Uituri stylistic area. This is a more recent example of this fairly rare mask type represented in "Ituri." Before the 1970's, the art from this area of the eastern Congo wa... Click for details

This is a classic Moroccan polychrome glazed bowl, showing unmistakable signs of usage over the years, with several divots in the glaze clearly visible. The color palette of this bowl is more subdued than the later, more garish wares that were made for the tourist market. The bowl is wired with steel cable for hanging from the wall; traditionally, these bowls were hung from the wall when not in use. The condition note is reflected in the asking price. Bowls of this age are not commonly seen anym... Click for details
