Fine Small Maricopa Pottery Olla

Not quite a miniature, but definitely a small at 3" tall, this finely made olla by an unknown Maricopa Indian potter is probably Mabel Sunn or Ida Redbird. They made many that they didn't sign.

Nice condition, the tiny imperfections are white house paint and a couple of pin point spalling.

Beautifully hand crafted with coils of native clay, the white slip is perfectly burnished inside and out, as is the tight fitting lid. Painted with bee plant and orange mineral paints then pit fired, no fire clouds.

This 5 ¼” wide Native American bichrome bowl (TEH122) dates into the 1970s. In overall good condition with some paint loss, it is marked in pencil on the base ‘MGG’, in black ink with ‘Hopi, Arizona’, and additionally, by its last owner in red pen, ‘Jeanie & Tom Howard’.
