A specacular piece of ceramic art. This brown clay lion was made in the Federal perion in communist China. It is at least 70 years old. It has a mold pattern or factory marks on the bottom, it is a number [245]and hard to see in the photo. This piece has no damage and it is 8 3/4" long, 4 1/2" tall. It has wonderful surface details to resemble fur. It has animal real wiskers set into pores in the head. It is an outstanding and rare piece.

DESCRIPTION: The long acknowledged masters of porcelain, the Chinese also excelled at pottery making. This large squat-form jar is hand crafted from red clay and is decorated with carved, raised foliage and butterfly motifs around the rim, over which has been applied a thick, dark teal glaze. The glaze is very rich, having a deep crackle/sparkle quality. This pot was probably used as a brazier or heater in which coal would be placed to warm your feet or hands.
