Panel from Miao baby carrier. Older piece about 30-40 years old. Sourced in Sichuan Province but probably from Yunnan Province China. Extremely fine work. All hand silk embroidered. Condition very good, some wear and the colors are a very muted consistent with an older piece. Dimensions: 72cm/8.5in height and 64cm/25.3in width at top.

There are four identical embroideries in this framed picture. These are early 20th century products. Every piece is about 5 ½ inches by 5 ½ inches. The gold frame is 18 ¼ inches long and 18 inches wide. It depicts five young boys, the one in the center is riding on a Qilin, others are on the corners and holding flowers and fruit in their hands. There are some chips on the frame and small scratches on the plexi-glass, but the embroideries are in good condition.

Li Woman’s Blouse and Skirt Ensemble. The Li people are only found on Hainan Island, China. The handmade cotton cloth on the blouse is new although the embroidered panels on the sleeve trims and lower side panels appear to be much older The zoomorphic “Naga” patterns are unique to the Li amongst the Hill People of Southern China. Miao (Hmong) Embroidered Baby Carrier

This complete baby carrier was made by the Miao people in China, possibly in Hunan or Guizhou province. The embroidery of silken thread on silk cloth is extraordinary. Symbols include the peony and butterfly. There is also some geometric designs and the central piece is bordered on three sides with flowers. The baby carrier is complete with the wrapping straps, which are of black-dyed cotton or hemp. The embroidered area is 19" by 22". Excellent condition.
