Old Chinese robed Budai image with characteristic elongated earlobes and fat belly standing on his bag of treasures, carved from a dense block of hardwood. Known as Hotei in Japan, and frequently referred to as the "Laughing Buddha," Budai is one of the Seven Gods of Good Luck and symbolizes prosperity and abundance. This is a old Chinese dresser box. The top is hinged, it opens to two mirrors. One mirror is removable the other holds up the top. There are two drawers. Much of the beautiful decorative pattern has worn off
and above the drawers there are two decorative pulls missing.
The hardware appears to be brass and in good condition. The overall condition good.

You see a framed replica of a very ornate cigarette paper box from a Chinese antique. The material I cast these from is a composite stone, same materian museums use for some of there replicas. It has a brilliant gold acrylic finish. The easil frame is 4 3/4" X 6 3/4". It could be converted to hang on a wall. Very elegant and expensive look. My own original so you will not see it elsewhere.

A Zitan hardwood box of a post 1940 date. The box is elegant and can be a functional and highly decorative accent for your coffee table or desk. A spurious 4 character Qianlong mark is deeply carved to add dimension to the overall but attractive simplicity of this decorative box that is sure to last many years. This particular hardwood species was once a coveted heirloom of the Imperial family throughout the Ming and Qing dynasties. This box was verbally evaluated by Lark Mason in 2006. It...
