This round Japanese cloisonne covered box, which is likely an incense storage container or kogo, dates to the mid-20th century. The cover is decorated with mauve and white flowers which are enclosed in thick brass wires on a mauve ground. A delicate tiny butterfly hovers above one of the blossoms. Stylized blossoms and leaves in the same colors decorate the sides. The interior and the base are covered in turquoise enamel, and the rims and foot ring are crafted of brass. This is a most unusual and charming Art Deco themed cloisonne vase - circa 1925-1935. Beautiful early 20th century Japanese cloisonne vase - uses a combination of wireless and standard cloisonne to depict an egret standing in a pool of water. Note the reflection of the crane in the water done in wireless cloisonne. Excellent condition - measures 7 1/2" tall and is 4" diameter at the shoulder. Very nice blue gray ground gives a nice serene look to the piece. Dates from late Taisho to early Showa period - circa 1925 - 1940.

Almost French in feeling is this fine Japanese silver cloisonné box of a simple domed round form. Gaily strewn with flowers on a white ground, and plainly backed in black enamel, it measures approximately 2-1/2 inches high and 4-1/2 inches in diameter. There is very tiny fleabite chip on the edge of the top, but you really have to look for it. Early Twentieth Century.
