Vintage earthenware Maneki Neko, the traditional Japanese beckoning or welcoming cat. Maneki Neko are commonly displayed at restaurants and bars as a symbol of welcoming and good fortune. This piece is unusually large, measuring approximately 18 inches tall, 11 inches wide, and 9 inches deep. It dates to the early Showa-Period (c.1930), and is in very good condition. Vintage Japanese earthenware sculpture of a female Tanuki, the mythical raccoon-dog of Japanese folklore. Tanuki is a mischievous character, often associated with good fortune. This Japanese abacus is approcimately from the mid 1900s. The abucus is made from wood (two pieces attached together) and wooden beads are place one at the top and five at the bottom, which indicates that the abacus is an old type (the contemporary type has four beads at the bottom). The back of abacus says, 'Rolled Oats Whole Sale Maehara Shop.'
